Yu-Hsun Lin is a 17-year-old student from Hsinchu, Taiwan. She is currently studying at the National Zhudong Senior High School. She is passionate about marine conservation and natural science research projects in her daily life. She is honored to participate in the GOH AGC event.
Her project is mainly aimed at the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 : Gender Equality and Goal 14 : Life Below Water.
After many interviews with local female divers (Haenyeo), it was found that the large amount of carbon dioxide emissions will cause ocean acidification, and the problem of ocean acidification will cause a large reduction in the number of organisms caught by many female divers (Haenyeo). In addition to affecting the lives of female divers (Haenyeo), she also found that this is a major gender equality issue.
Yu-Hsun Lin plans to cooperate with the research team in the school, the community development association and the local government to complete her project. She hopes that through the solutions she has developed, she can effectively improve the lives of female divers (Haenyeo) and make the public aware of why ocean acidification affects the marine ecosystem and the lives of female divers (Haenyeo), so that the ocean can achieve the concept of sustainable environment. In addition, it will enhance the participants’ awareness of marine protection and drive the public’s environmental protection concept for marine conservation.
