SDGs Goal: 1 No Poverty, 4 Quality Education, 5 Gender Equality, and 10 Reduced Inequalities
Nuha is a 17-year-old high school graduate from Bangladesh, who was born and raised in Malaysia. Passionate about education equity, she volunteers as an English teacher for underprivileged children through PADI (Program Akademik dan Insaniah, a welfare initiative that provides free tuition classes) under Pertubuhan Daie Moden Malaysia and with Nurturise at Rabbaniyah Educare, a Rohingya refugee school. Her biggest milestone to date has been her selection as an AGC 2025 Fellow.
Her initiative, Project Nur, aims to bridge the educational gap among Rohingya refugee children in Malaysia. Since fleeing Myanmar in 2017 due to military violence, these children have had limited access to quality education that nurtures creativity, voice, and confidence which are crucial for breaking cycles of poverty and societal exclusion. The absence of holistic development opportunities may result in low self-confidence, lack of motivation, and diminished future prospects.
Project Nur addresses these challenges by delivering eight interactive learning sessions using a specially designed kit centered around debate and public speaking. These tools help children aged 7-18 build critical thinking, confidence, teamwork, leadership, and self expression. Tailored to their cultural context and generational needs, the program aims to reach approximately 50 children, supported by a dedicated team of volunteers.
Beyond traditional learning, Project Nur encourages lifelong skills and personal growth through joyful, empowering experiences. While the prime focus is on SDG 4 (Quality Education), in the long term, Project Nur also contributes to SDGs 1 (No Poverty), 5 (Gender Equality), and 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by fostering inclusive, equitable opportunities for marginalized communities.
