Maia is a 19-year-old student from the Philippines, currently studying Psychology at Mapúa University. She is deeply committed to advocating for youth health, particularly in the area of tobacco control. With a wealth of experience spanning almost four years, Maia has been actively involved in various campaigns and initiatives aimed at raising awareness about the harmful effects of smoking and vaping among youth.
Maia’s commitment to this cause has taken her to different parts of the Philippines, from Sorsogon to Davao, where she utilized her platform to educate young individuals about the dangers of tobacco use. Despite being a budding psychology student, Maia understands the importance of holistic health and well-being, especially among her peers.
Her project, “Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle: Engaging the Youth Against Smoking and Vaping,” addresses the alarming issue of minors engaging in tobacco use, despite its illegality in the Philippines. Through this initiative, Maia aims to educate children and youth about the harmful effects of tobacco products while empowering them to become advocates for a smoke-free future.
With goals ranging from education and awareness-raising to the involvement of local youth officials, Maia’s project holds the promise of creating a lasting impact on the community of Casiguran, Sorsogon. Through collaborative efforts with the municipal government, media engagement, and the support of influential figures like Bea Binene, Maia is poised to lead a transformative campaign that promotes the well-being of the youth and contributes to the SDO of Good Health and Well-Being.
