Lin Let Oo is a passionate youth leader from Myanmar dedicated to advancing education and gender equality. She is a young member of the New York Academy of Sciences and the founder of Hope Builders Youth Initiative (HBYI), a nonprofit organization based in Myanmar that supports youth from conflict-affected and rural areas through educational opportunities and peer learning.
Her project, “STEMFolks Myanmar,” focuses on empowering at least 200 girls by providing comprehensive STEM education, digital literacy, and capstone projects, integrated with essential 21st-century skills such as leadership, public speaking, and gender studies. Targeting girls from marginalized communities, this initiative directly addresses the gender gap in access to quality education and career opportunities in science and technology.
The project combines virtual and in-person workshops to deliver accessible and engaging learning experiences for girls in Myanmar. By partnering with local schools, NGOs, and global mentors, the initiative leverages international expertise and resources to provide mentorship and support. This approach aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), creating a sustainable and inclusive platform where girls gain the confidence, skills, and networks needed to become future leaders and innovators.
As a representative and founder, Lin is committed to bridging the digital divide and cultivating empowered young women who will drive Myanmar’s sustainable development and social progress.
