“A girl had been sexually assaulted by her stepfather for six times for six years since she was 13 years old. However, after five years of the lawsuit, the supreme court vacates the 28-year sentence.”
From the age of 13, Ling-ling had been sexually assaulted by her stepfather for six years. For the first and second instance, the defendant was sentenced to 28 years, but the Supreme Court remanded the case. At the end of June this year, the Supreme ruled that the defendant was not guilty. They claimed that Ling-ling’s testimony was inconsistent, and her post-traumatic stress syndrome could not be confirmed as the result of the sexual assault.
It is obvious that some judges have insufficient knowledge of sexual assault cases and lack of the understanding of victims of sexual assault. Until when will the gender blindness of the judicial system stop?
