On March 7, 2021, which was also the eve of International Women’s Day, GOH was invited by Maki Abe (安倍真紀), chair of the All Japan Women’s Shelter Network, to take part in their Spring Forum on Domestic Violence Prevention. GOH CEO Wang Yueh-hao gave a presentation on how Taiwan approaches shelter management and legal advocacy.
The presentation received high praise, with the representative director of the Japanese Dating Violence Prevention Network, Yamaguchi Yoriko (山口のり子), expressing her enthusiasm for GOH’s work and the renowned newspaper Shimbun Akahata (赤旗報) even printing a column highlighting GOH’s experience.
“After learning more about Taiwan’s progressive legal and policy reforms, I couldn’t help but think ‘Wow, Taiwan is really amazing!’” – Representative director of the Japanese Dating Violence Prevention Network, Yamaguchi Yoriko (山口のり子).
“As we know the root of domestic violence is gender-based violence, we hope to introduce gender equality legislation just as Taiwan has. That is even despite the fact that it seems like an unrealizable dream based on the current situation in Japan.” – Representative director of the Japanese Dating Violence Prevention Network, Yamaguchi Yoriko (山口のり子).
GOH hopes to continue to work with our Japanese counterparts not only on the prevention of domestic violence but also to share our experience in creating a comprehensive shelter network with our partner organizations across Asia. It is by working together that we can eliminate gender-based violence across the region.
