Israel office in Taipei cooperated with GOH to host Krav Maga Workshop

In support of the International Day to End Violence Against Women, last Wednesday (11/30), the Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei cooperated with the Garden of Hope’s Linkou Service Center and hosted a Krav Maga workshop for the women and children we serve.

The Israel Office brought a female coach who is professional in Krav Maga for the workshop. In addition, Israel Deputy Representative Osnat Menache joined the event and expressed the hope to bring the self-protection skills to more people.

During the workshop, Ms. Yu-hua LEE, the director of Linkou Service Center opened up with our appreciation to Israel Office for its support;

Next, the coach explains to the audience that in a moment of conflict or crisis, they should end the crisis as quickly as possible, which is the primary tenet of Krav Maga. The coach teaches the trainees how to use self-defense in a progressive way: First, stance and gestures are the most important, using the hands to protect the upper body, the lower body kicks forward and up, and the instep to the calf area to attack. In addition to putting the trainees in the field to practice the manipulation exercises, the coach instructs them one-on-one to adjust their posture and strength to avoid injury.

Although the workshop time was tight, the coach guided all the students very carefully, which made the day full for everyone! The day after the event, one of the trainees shared with us her feedback that the moves the coach taught were essential and easy to learn. She immediately shared the actions with her daughter, who could not attend the workshop, and that she was very grateful to the coach and the office for holding this event.

The Garden of Hope Foundation is very grateful to the Israel Office for cooperating with us. This kind of activity helps women to build their confidence and protect themselves.

Through this workshop, GOH also hopes to promote the recently published handbook for foreign nationals experiencing gender-based violence (GBV) in Taiwan, which the GBV victims would learn the relevant organizations and related resources to turn to.
