International Conferences

Participating in international conferences is an important medium for establishing networks with foreign NGOs, governments, opinion leaders, and academia, and it is also a key occasion for absorbing new international knowledge and speaking internationally. The Garden of Hope Foundation (GOH) has been actively participating in important international conferences related to women’s issues since 1994. The foundation is the first women’s group in Taiwan to participate in the NGO CSW parallel events, an affiliate of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).

In addition, GOH also strives for the opportunity to hold international conferences. In November 2019, the foundation held the 4th World Conference of Women’s Shelters in Kaohsiung, which was the first large-scale international conference for Taiwan’s social welfare sector, attracting more than 1,200 representatives from 88 countries to gather in Taiwan. The world conference has demonstrated the uniqueness of Asia’s social work in shelters and its determination to end sexual/gender violence. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, The Garden of Hope Foundation saw an increase of domestic violence in various countries. A total of 17 online webinars were held, allowing shelters to communicate in real time and learn from each other the best service practices in pandemic.
