Project-Based Learning (PBL) Workshops
Project-Based Learning (PBL) is an instructional approach wherein students acquire knowledge through hands-on engagement in authentic and personally significant projects. In collaboration with iEARN Taiwan, our adept facilitators work closely with participants to refine their projects, ensuring a more comprehensive and effective project execution.
In 2024, we hosted two online sessions, extending them to physical ones during the Power Camp when our fellows visited Taiwan:
The week commenced with an inspiring in-person workshop conducted by iEARN Taiwan’s senior facilitators, Ms. Doris Wu and Ms. Nela Lin. The fellows immersed themselves in the significance of peer critique collaboration, mastering the art of seeking and incorporating feedback constructively. They also honed their skills in presenting projects effectively to individuals with diverse backgrounds, staying on track, and identifying strategies to achieve their anticipated goals.
Following this, they exchanged projects with students from Tainan Sheng Kung Girls’ High School, who already had successfully completed their PBL projects. These enthusiastic buddies generously shared their experiences, enriching the learning journey for all involved.
The program concluded with a grand finale as the fellows presented their projects through captivating posters within a strict time limit. Conveying essential information in such a short span was undoubtedly challenging, but our fellows rose to the occasion. The presentations proved to be both informative and inspirational, reflecting the hard work and dedication invested in their projects. This exercise provided a golden opportunity for them to fine-tune their public speaking and presentation skills, acting as a crucial trial run for their upcoming presentations in October.
Cross-Cultural Exchange Workshop
The Garden of Hope Foundation (GOH) has been dedicated to empowering girls for over two decades. In the past decade, we’ve expanded our efforts to reach girls in Asia, fostering close partnerships with NGOs in the region. Together, we advocate for the elevation of girls’ rights, aiming to create a girl-friendly environment worldwide.
This year, we are delighted to host the 10 fellows—a group of girls from Nepal, Bhutan, Mongolia, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Indonesia, Israel, and Taiwan. As the goal of the Asian Girls in Action Project is to co-create global change through partnerships and girls’ empowerment. We tailor-made a cross-cultural exchange workshop for fellows from different cultures and backgrounds to learn, exchange their experiences, and build new friendships.
In the morning if the one-day workshop, Mike van der Vijver from Orange Gibbon facilitated the beginning of the workshop, introducing the girls to cross-culture exchanges. Following that, the fellows began introducing their cultures through their different cuisines and dining traditions. The passion for their own culture was heart-warming and truly showed their care for their own society and culture, making it clear that this passion is their motivation for helping their society.
In the afternoon, to further represent each other’s culture, each fellow put on their respective culture’s traditional clothing and put on an enjoyable fashion show, to admire every individual’s clothes. Our fellows quickly bonded after these cultural activities and were able to go into a deep conversation where they exchanged ideas and experiences about their projects, furthering their own knowledge while also helping and encouraging their peers.
This workshop concluded with a celebration for the girls that now have a greater understanding of one another. We hope they will continue to expand their views of the world while also being able to embrace and share their own culture as well. We are delighted the fellows were able to enjoy their time in Taiwan and hope every girl can continue to approach each day with a positive attitude.
