2021 Asian Girls Power Camp

#powercamp

GOH’s annual summer Power Camp has officially begun!

Though the pandemic prevented us from gathering in person, technology has brought us together from all across Asia. Before our fantastic courses, we were fortunate to have the Department of NGO Affairs Director-General Constance H. Wang, National Human Rights Commissioner Chi Zoe, and Gina Shaw from Micron Taiwan give us their warm encouragement.
Of course, the day could not have been complete without our wonderful speakers: advocate from GOH Yu-Ying Kuo, who has been a TED speaker, shared wonderful insights on the mission to eliminate gender-based violence through empowerment; Learning in Science brought us to re-examine women’s role in modern science; and dooing shared her secrets to using social media as a tool for advocacy.

We also welcomed Aotter Girls to share their knowledge on the latest technological trends from a female perspective.

Today, we got a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes from a professional YouTube team! From script-writing and filming to editing and creating posts, the girls learned to approach social media in a new way, especially after the special consulting hour with our speakers!! The girls then created and used tools for their advocacy. Afterward, they shared their inspiration and new knowledge on filmmaking and now look forward to making a greater social impact.
Because of Covid-19, it was the first time we held a completely online power camp. Numerous technical difficulties were experienced but were readily resolved. GOH has always believed that empowerment and technology can reach outside of established frameworks to help Asian girls create a better future.
