About The Garden of Hope

The Garden of Hope Foundation upholds Christian values in its pursuit of justice and love. We are devoted to preventing and eliminating gender-based violence and co-creating a gender-friendly society through a diverse array of services and initiatives. Our hope is for everyone to enjoy the nobility and glory of life in a society free of gender-based discrimination and violence.

With faith in God’s love for Taiwan’s unfortunate young girls, in 1986, a group of Christians, including missionaries Angie Golmon and Liang Wang-hui, established the Garden of Hope Young Women’s Home – the first non-governmental institution in Taiwan to welcome in young girls to help their lives to blossom.

In Taipei in 1988, they established The Garden of Hope Foundation, formally registering it as a national foundation in 2001.

Anti-Child Prostitution Movement

1992-1995

Launched the campaign "Jogging on Huaxi Street to Fight Underage Prostitution," leading to the passage in Taiwan's legislature of The Garden of Hope's version of the Child and Youth Sexual Trafficking Prevention Act (and, later, the current Child and Youth Sexual Exploitation Prevention Act).

Activists for the Protection of Girls

1995-2001

Founded the nationwide Girls Hope Network and the Dandelion Therapy Center, providing victims of sexual abuse and those close to them psychological therapy.

Empowering Girls and Women

2001-2008

Over the many years that we spent providing frontline services, we saw first-hand the needs of the people we were helping. The Garden of Hope continually spoke up for them, participated in initiatives for gender justice, fought for their empowerment, and developed preparatory workplaces to help them find employment.

Building Gender Justice Together
