A Camp by girls for girls in Asia

Have you ever wondered about girls’ rights issues in other countries? Are you interested in discussing with inspiring girls from Asia? Luckily, the Garden of Hope Foundation (GH) had the wonderful chance to do so on August 6th, as we were honored to collaborate with SafeBuddy, a youth-led organization with members from Japan, the Philippines and Nepal, to host the event called ‘Girls4Asia.’

During the half-day workshop, more than 30 girls from Japan, Nepal, the Philippines and Taiwan presented the obstacles that each country is facing at the moment. Also, they have discussed and shared their opinions on 2 specific questions brought up in the participant’s applications:

Q1: What are the places that have a high risk of girls being sexually assaulted?
Q2: What can we achieve through gender equality?

The diverse answers gave all of us a lot of food for thoughts that day, but the impact will definitely last longer. After the discussion and posing questions, the participants from each country have produced

posters to indicate the gender-equality issues and active projects, which they can share with others, and hope to inspire more people.

The event was significant for GOH not only because there were more participants than we expected, also because it was the first ever event which was organized, executed and conducted by girls themselves. Let’s give a big hand to those amazing Asian girls! Also, we’d like to give special thanks to Aya, Flory and all members of SafeBuddy for showing the team spirit of Asian girls. We cannot wait to see the amazing changes these girls will bring to the world!
