The Garden of Hope Foundation Yunlin Branch Office has strongly promoted Taiwan Girls Day for five years, increasing the awareness of the core values behind Taiwan Girls Day and of girls’ rights as a whole in Yunlin.
For our speakers, we invited the well-known YouTuber duo of “Lady Bom Bom Power,” two “big” girls named Mallie and Amy. In the workshop, Mallie and Amy used the marshmallow body shape to illustrate that “beauty” is just a form of self-awareness, with the aim of deconstructing the public’s narrow conception of beauty. For the second session, we invited Lin Si-ting, a former member of the Taiwanese national boxing team. Lin said that she has liked to be physically active since she was a child, though she also believes herself to be a lovely girl. She hopes that the public will not marginalize girls who are not “girly.”
We hope that, regardless of gender, age, or identity, all members of society can be given equal opportunities and work together to fulfill our social responsibilities. To be seen as equal by the public is the greatest hope of Taiwanese girls, and we hope that we can continue raising awareness and get more people to care about girls’ rights and interests through more public activities.
